At the Planning Commission’s March 4th meeting, the Land Use and Development Policies will be considered for recommendation to City Council. The Planning Commission meeting begins at 7:00 PM at the Carnegie Town Hall.

The Land Use and Development Policies is one chapter of the proposed 2035 Shape Sioux Falls Comprehensive Plan. This new chapter has required a significant public involvement process; and therefore, has been determined to require separate approval and then will be incorporated with the remaining chapters of the proposed Shape Sioux Falls 2035 Plan. It is the intent of the Planning Office to bring the 2035 Shape Sioux Falls plan as a whole to Planning Commission and City Council in the upcoming months. The chapters of the Shape Sioux Falls 2035 Plan will include the following

B. Socio-Economic Data
C. Growth Area Analysis
D. Land Use and Development Policies
E. Utilities
F. Transportation
G. Schools, Parks, and Public Open Space
H. Neighborhood Conservation
I. Rural Development Plan
J. Implementation Program

Each meeting consisted of draft standards, images and discussion regarding the various characteristics and then a vote following the procedures that were set up early in the committee meetings.

Meetings were held on the following dates: June 19, July 14, August 18, September 22, October 28, November 12, December 9 .

The Shape Sioux Falls initiative will unveil draft land use and development policies that will help shape the community over the next 25 years at an open house scheduled from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, December 17, 2008, at the Historic Orpheum Theater, 315 North Phillips Avenue. On April 10, 2008, six stakeholder focus group sessions were held to gain input from various stakeholders and citizens in regard to the results of the Visual Listening Survey. The input included opportunities and limitations to consider when updating the City’s land use and development standards. Approximately 40 persons were involved in the stakeholder group sessions.
